Wisconsin SHEEP AND WOOL FESTIVAL - jefferson

When fall is around the corner, all we want to do at the Sheep Dairy Association of Wisconsin is cuddle up with our wool sweaters, wine or beer, and unique cheese and charcuterie board creations from the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival. As you explore the special ways that raising sheep connects us, whether that’s weaving, knitting, or showing—you’ll find us showcasing and selling our cheese makers’ delicious sheep milk cheeses made from our farmer members’ sheep milk. Always running out of cheese on our last day at this event, its such a pleasure to meet you, get to know you, and catch up with the many visitors we have met before! We tend to meet our most dedicated friends at this event, some travelling far to come catch us at the booth, for which we feel the deepest gratitude.

One of the many delightful pieces of feedback we have gotten about our members’ cheeses is compliments on the notable, creamy flavor that reminds some of Manchego and Pecorino cheese. This is because of the unique chemical composition of the fat found in sheep milk. Many also notice the sweeter, creamier taste of our cheeses that comes from the smaller fat globule size in sheep milk. It certainly keeps us coming back for more! As SDAW president and owner of Maple Hill Farm Brian Michielson says, “That cheese basically sells itself!”
