On a bright sunny day in mid-July, you can find us at the annual Dane County Fair serving up some fresh sheep cheese and chatting up a storm with our favorite people—you! It always makes our day to share our members’ wonderful sheep cheeses with you, especially when it seems to surprise you with its creamy, bright, and memorable flavors. Can you guess what one of the most common questions we get asked at this event? If you guessed, “you can milk sheep and make cheese out of it?” you’d be correct! Not only can you milk sheep, but it also has twice the amount of protein and fat found in cow and goat milk. The protein and fat are also unique in their chemical structure, making sheep milk cheese easier to digest for some—always a bonus!
